Travertine (from Italian travertino) is a limestone tuff, a polycrystalline fragile fine-grained mountain rock. Travertine is an intermediate form of stone between limestone and marble. It is easily susceptible to grinding and polishing. In the first century BC, travertine was known as lapis tiburtinus (Tiburtine stone). Since ancient times, travertine has been used as a building and facing stone (also for interior decoration). The largest structure built using travertine is the Colosseum and St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.

For example, longitudinal and transverse sawing of slabs gives a different pattern. And different directions of grinding allow you to change the shade even within one color.

High water absorption. Another concern is the ingress of water through the stone's lacunae, which can lead to its freezing and subsequent destruction. However, thanks to this same property, rooms in the house "breathe," the microclimate in the rooms is not disturbed, and the "greenhouse effect" is not created.
Fragility.
